LOOKING BACK
|
Five young primary teachers, Late Shri.Damodar Sadashiv Karambelkar,
Late Shri.Krishnaji Balwant Dongre, Late Shri.Ramkrishna Bhikaji Kulkarni, Late
Shri.Ramchandra Gopal Deo and Late Shri.Krishnaji Govind Ukidwe, taking an
inspiration from Great Nibandhamalakar Late Vishnushastri Chiplunkar started
the Nootan Marathi Vidyalaya, a Primary School on 1st January 1883 at the
Morobadada Wada at Shaniwar Peth in Pune. All these dedicated teachers had
just completed their training and decided to serve the nation under the guidance
from Lokmanya B.G.Tilak, Prin.G.G.Agarkar and famous novelist H.N.Apte

They knew that India needs Peoples' education to have the real progress
and to prepare the strong based education through the mother tongue is the
solution to reach that objective for the allround development of the children value
education, physical education, drawing and craft were the subjects being taught
in that school and the people of Pune extended their helping hand, though not
the government, for the development of this school.
This school enters it's One hundred and Twenty fifth year and today it
has grown as a rank-school not only in Maharashtra State but even in India.
Late Dr.Mahamopadhyaya Datto Waman Potdar was the first
administrator of the School. He worked from 1916 to 1925 with Late Prof.Trimbak
Bhikaji Hardikar who helped him to equip the school with teaching aids. Then
from 1934 to 1949 great Educationist Late Prof.Mahadeo Ramchandra Paranjape
took the charge when he made the extension of the building. In the year 1947
Late Prof.M.S.Godbole became the first visitor and Late Shri.B.G.Garud was
appointed as the Headmaster of this School.
The band of dedicated visitors who were the Life Members of the
Shikshan Prasarak Mandali - the parent institution, helped to develop this school.
They were Prof.W.M.Dhabadghav (1940), Prof.K.P.Mangalwedhekar (1951 to 1954), Prof.A.G.Mangrulkar,
Prof.M.R.Raikar and Prin.Shridhar Patankar.
